How many of us have ever looked at an orange juice bottle for a minute just because it said 'concentrate' on the side? Admittedly, probably not too many, but perhaps it is fair to say that those of us who've paid real attention to that breakfast juice are not all in the wrong.
Personally, I find concentrating on one thing/project/idea really difficult. Counting recently, I found I have started (and left unfinished) over 100 stories since I learnt to write. Bodes well for my writing skills, huh.
But with God, concentration is a little more flexible. You might not say an essay of a prayer every night, but a thought or a thank you goes straight to him. And because God is constantly with us as our lives progress, He knows what's going on. Sometimes we just want to ask guidance for what to do next.
Concentrating on God is something everyone does, although it is all too easy to let our minds wander a bit in mass, through listening there are important messages that really can affect the way we live our lives. Readings can be about forgiveness, exclusion, confusion, new beginnings, old reckonings…everything, really. People haven't really changed. Neither have our dilemmas.
Really thinking and concentrating really hard for a while reminds me of how close God really is. God is there for us. God is guiding us. Little things remind me all the time that He's reaching out to everyone, and He's reaching out to me over breakfast.
