* 'I MAKE ALL THINGS NEW'
Revelation 21

And now I make all things new...

Recently, I have been reading the book of Revelation. In chapter 21 there’s this bit when John has a vision of a new earth and a new heaven. God is talking to him about a new world that is going to be so beautiful that it’s beyond understanding.

That made me wonder how I would react if someone told me all things will be new. I have a feeling I wouldn’t be totally happy about it. I’m not very good with changes.

After finishing school I did a gap year, volunteering with homeless people. Although work could be a bit tough at times, I had a brilliant time. I lived and worked with people from lots of different countries and it felt like we had all the fun in the world.

Unfortunately, gap years don’t last forever; before long it was time to start uni. I got on the course I wanted, moved to a lively little town and met some really nice people. Still, I couldn’t help feeling thinking: ‘well, that’s all quite good but, live isn’t ever going to be as good as it was back then’. I spent nearly a year in the blurred state of clinging in the past, until I slowly began to appreciate all the great things that surrounded me in the present.

Even though it can be difficult to let go of good times you had in the past and new things take a lot of courage sometimes, there dwells a great beauty and chance in each beginning. If we are ready to follow God’s call to new beginnings, to journey onwards and throw off old habits, life definitely won’t get boring.
