Have you seen it then? I wanted to, but my husband said it would be too cheesy. He took some persuading but I managed it and off we went. He tried not to enjoy it but had couldn’t stop himself laughing out loud, singing along and enjoying the film. The name of the film? Mamma Mia of course! He didn’t want to go – he was a heavy rock fan, not an Abba fan in the 70’s – but he went and was amazed at how much fun he had.
Sometimes we don’t want to try new things. We decide before we try them what they will be like. But if we are closed to new things we limit our experiences. And sometimes we can be surprised!
St Paul had decided that Christians were wrong and he didn’t want to hear their message. He led the persecutions against them and even ordered some to be put to death. But then he met Jesus on that road to Damascus and his whole life changed. He later wrote ‘For me to live is Christ’. The very centre and purpose of his life had changed. His new beginning was the start of a great and powerful ministry. How different it might have been had he ignored the call of Jesus that day. It is hard to step out into a new place, and harder still to admit we have been wrong and begin again, but with God that’s what we can do.
Maybe you have been going the ‘wrong’ way in your life? Or maybe God is calling you to something new? Trust him, give it a go. It might be the best decision you ever make! |
